Orson Welles called him "the greatest of all the clowns in the history of the cinema... a supreme artist, and I think one of the most beautiful people who was ever photographed" while Salvador Dali said his films were “pure poetry. Buster Keaton is considered to be one of the greatest of the silent film comedians, along with Charlie Caplin and Harold Lloyd, while today his works are seen as being the most modern. From 1920 to 1928, Keaton created 19 short and 11 feature films that still amaze today with their complexity and creative ingenuity. 7 of his films have been selected to the National Film Registry and masterpieces Sherlock Jr and The General frequently appear on critics’ lists of the greatest films of all times.
